A member contacted us recently to let us know of her plight

This member had her handbag stolen recently while attending a toddler group with her minded children- inside were her car keys, house keys, purse, phone and emergency forms for her minded children plus her credit cards.

She had to have her car towed away and new locks put in and also new locks fitted at home.

NCMA Public Liability Insurance does not cover her for her own things which she had not understood

Her house insurance will not cover her for items out side her own house, her car insurance will only pay for the removal of her car and new locks in her car.

She also has to pay £150 excess and lose some of her no claims.

She asked us to inform our members of the possible outcome of leaving your handbag on a chair at toddler groups.

Our advice:

This is perhaps a very rare occurance as many people attend groups over long periods with no problems. However it is a reminder that not everyone is a honest as we hope they are.

It is also a wake up call to check your insurance and see if it meets all your needs. Read the small print and ask your insurance broker how much extra it will cost to update your policy. Then the choice is up to you to pay extra premiums or be extra vigilant (not always easy when you are caring for children and they are your main focus)

If you have any problems or concerns please let us know so we can pass them on to all our members
